Hello,
I oppose the Dumbarton Rail Corridor Project for the following reasons:
This project is clearly moving toward freight traffic. Pacific Union has the
right to use the track and the corridor will be a shorted distance route for
East Bay freight. Millions of dollars are planned to renovate structures in
support of heavy freight traffic. The DRC planning seems to serve the
freight interests, not relief from traffic congestion.
The DRC plan is for heavy rail. Attractive alternatives such as such as
light rail, electrification and use of the right of way for bus traffic are
not considered. This is short sighted and inept planning/thinking. Long term
commuter traffic is not well served by additional diesel capacity
This project as currently envisioned seems an inappropriate use for Measure
2 funds. Relief from traffic congestions is desperately needed and this
project seems far from the best use of Measure 2 funds. The project will
have limited effect on congestion and is projected to have exceptionally
high cost per rider.
