Dear Council Members:
As you listen to the SMCTA presentation on the the Dumbarton Rail Project tomorrow night and have an opportunity to discuss the project later during the meeting please consider the following concerns:
1. Are large, noisy, CalTrain-style diesel engines the best long-term solution to regional commuter transit problems and connectivity (as opposed to light rail, electric trains or buses)?
2. Regional Measure 2 (March 2004) was approved by voters and authorized "commuter rail service" along the Dumbarton corridor, not freight service. It is crucial that Menlo Park understands all possible future use of the rail corridor. Freight service appears to be beyond the scope of voter approval.
3. With the on-going budget issues related to the project how will reasonable and required mitigations be funded to minimize the impacts of the project?
Thank you for your attention,
Rich Ferrick
