| ASSEMBLY DISTRICT 24 HEALTHCARE TOWN HALL |
Assemblymember Jim Beall, Jr. (D-San Jose) would like to invite you to a Healthcare Town Hall. The Governor and leadership from both houses of the State Legislature have made fixing California's healthcare system a top priority this year. This Town Hall will help educate and raise awareness about the various healthcare reform proposals that are currently being considered in Sacramento. The event will also provide an opportunity to meet with your elected official and learn how the Governor's May Revise impacts the proposals. You will be able to express your thoughts on which proposals you think would work best in California. For more information, please call (408) 282-8920. Details are provided below.

| UPDATE ON PROP 1C HOUSING BONDS |
Housing affordability is not just a problem for low-income families. Since 2000, average statewide rents and home prices have more than doubled. In 2006, voters passed Proposition 1C which provides nearly $2.9 billion for housing for lower-income residents and development in urban areas near public transportation. A little more than one-half of Proposition 1C's $2.9 billion is subject to legislative appropriation. The remainder is appropriated automatically for housing programs consistent with Proposition 46, the Housing and Emergency Shelter Fund Act that passed in 2002.
This year 26 bills were introduced to be the vehicle for implementation of Proposition 1C funds. During a recent hearing convened by the Assembly Committee on Housing and Community Development, many proposals were considered relating to how the state will allocate Proposition 1C funds. As a founding board member of the Santa Clara County Housing Trust, I strongly support the proposal to set aside $40 million for local housing trusts through Proposition 1C's Affordable Housing Innovation Fund. With an original investment of $24.5 million the Santa Clara County Housing Trust has leveraged $2.1 billion and built 6,166 affordable homes. For more information on Proposition 1C, please visit the California state's department of Housing and Community Development at http://www.hcd.ca.gov/fa/bonds.html.
