Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry about the possibility of curbside collection
of compostable materials such as food scraps and food soiled paper. At
the present time, Allied Waste collects that material only from
commercial customers that have large quantities, such as restaurants,
cafeterias, and schools. It is picked up 2 to 5 times a week. The
South Bayside Waste Management Authority, of which Menlo Park is a
member, is considering the inclusion of food scraps, etc. in the new
residential collection service contract which begins on January 1, 2011.
Residential collection service may require different trucks, transfer
and processing than the commerical service now in operation.

The County offers free home composting workshops. You can learn about
them, and much more, at www.recycleworks.org

Thank you for your efforts to reduce waste and conserve resources!

Subject: city composting

Hi,

Would you please consider offering city-wide composting with curb-side
pickup? Currently we can leave mulchable garden trimmings at curbside,
but some cities pickup all compostable materials....food scraps, used
paper plates, pizza boxes, etc, in addition to garden trimmings. I'd
love it if Menlo Park would offer that service. I think our curbside
recycling company offers the service...why don't we use it?

Thanks for your consideration,

Karen Grove
