Removal of potentially fatal construction barricade on eastbound Sand Hill Road

Dear City Council:

I was astounded to see today that the entire shoulder of eastbound Sand
Hill Road has been blocked off in order to prevent motor traffic from
turning into the Addison Wesley construction site. I would think that
even a child could see that this unnecessary barricade presents a
significant hazards to cyclists on one of the county's busiest bike
routes, but given the recent near fatal collision at this exact location
and an alleged factor of a shoulder obstruction played in it, it is
incredible that the contractor would be allowed to install this
barricade.

I request that this barrier be removed immediately and that the
"temporary" construction signs which currently occupy most of the
shoulder be replaced with proper, off pavement signing. Additionally, I
request that the signing for future construction projects be reviewed by
staff for its impact on bike and pedestrian traffic. While this hazard
is extreme, the general case of contraction crews commandeering bike
lanes for signing and equipment storage is all to common.

Sincerely,

Eric Gilbertson
