Hi Margaret,
I sympathize with you regarding the air and noise pollution from Caltrain.
There is hope for better air along the corridor. A new CA Air Resources
Board requirement mandates intrastate locomotives use ULTRA-LOW SULFUR
DIESEL FUEL which is much cleaner burning than existing diesel fuel. The
fuel being used on Caltrain now is out of regulatory compliance and will be
replaced with fuel that meets the new CA clean air requirements. I know you
can't read pdf files so I cut and pasted the action items from the attached
file below.

SUBJECT: TERMINATION AND AWARD OF A NEW CONTRACT FOR
PROVIDING ULTRA-LOW SULFUR DIESEL FUEL AND TRACKSIDE
FUELING SERVICES
ACTION
Staff Coordinating Council (SCC) recommends that the Board:
1. Terminate for convenience the current five-year contract with Golden
Gate Petroleum
(GGP) of Martinez, scheduled to expire September 30, 2008.
2. Award a new contract to GGP for a total estimated bid price of
$19,579,165 for a twoyear
term.
3. Authorize the Executive Director to execute a contract with GGP in full
conformity with
the terms and conditions set forth in the contract documents.
4. Authorize the Executive Director to exercise up to three additional
one-year option terms
at the appropriate time and if in the best interest of the JPB.
