Objecting to irresponsible behavior

Mayor Kelly Fergusson
Mayor Pro Tem Andrew Cohen
John Boyle
Richard Cline
Heyward Robinson

You city council members are acting irresponsibly. Two items
illustrate.

-1) A "Green" Ribbon committee unaccountable to the public but
directed by the Mayor
-2) A 35% increase in pensions to city union employees (35%..are you
out of your mind..!)

Green
The "unofficial" Green Ribbon folks will undoubtedly chase will of the
wisps such as this which is being chaired by our Mayor. Let's see
now...my crystal ball says the city will begin paying out subsidies for
solar panels (read: city money being paid to this private firm called
"Solar City"):

SolarCity, a solar installation and service company inspiring
communities to take charge of their energy needs, welcomes Menlo Park
residents to a community meeting on "greening" Menlo Park and the
economic and environmental benefits of household and commercial solar
power.

Pensions
The 35% increase in pensions is ill defined. For all the visibility we
are getting, it may be doing something absurd like raising pension
benefits to, say, 150% of full-time wages when a city worker retires
after, let's say, 10 years on the job. Any business managers that did
this type of thing would be pilloried by shareholders for incurring such
a huge liability. (Can you say: US automakers?) As well, every business
would be obliged by accounting rules to show such a liability on its
balance sheet. Where is this accountability shown in the city's books?

Your actions reflect those of children who have found their way into
Mom's cookie jar. Be aware that we citizens expect responsible
behavior.
