Dear City Council Members,
I know you are preparing to address how Menlo Park will address climate
change. I highly support a proactive approach and encourage you to Sign
the Mayors Climate Protection Agreement and Establish a community-based
Green Ribbon Task Force to invistigate the most effective actions for
Menlo Park to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Let's us be leaders in social rsponsibility and environmental
stuardship. I believe this would be a vary positive direction for Menlo
Park as we look for econimic opportunites, address residential and
commercial building and promote our community as an environmentally
progressive one that values the health and safety of its citizens and
the world community in general.

A few examples of some things we could do:
1. Require all new construction for any city building to be green.
Older city structures should be converted to solar, etc over time. I
would also extend this to all commercial building and residential homes
of a certain square footage (the bigger the building the greener it must
be)
2. City automobiles should be hybrid
3. Stop requiring a permit tax or whatever the correct financial
payment to city is call for home solar (I was told this is required but
have no first hand knowledge)
4. Offer incentives to get people out of their cars, ie bus service for
schools, bus pick up and drop off for shopping

These are just a couple of thoughts on the fly but we have many
intelligent and inventive citizens that I believe can help hammer out
real possibilities that will make Menlo Park an environmental leader.
Let's not wait for another community to take the lead.
Pam Salvatierra
