Dear Sirs:
Unfortunately, I am unable to attend the meeting Tuesday evening because
of a prior commitment, but my sentiments are very strong against the
idea of having a pre-school right in the middle of this area. I have
been very concerned about this situation from the onset. I attended the
first meeting and my associate attended the second meeting. There is a
great down side to having 70 + small children, many pre-school,
attending a school in this industrial area. The traffic bombing up and
down the street with large trucks and teenagers presents an unsafe
environment (we have had three employees' cars hit by vehicles because
they were traveling on O'Brien over the speed limit). We have found in
the "canal drainage" areas, which weaves in and out of the industrial
park, drug paraphernalia and other unmentionable personal things and
transient foot traffic. This area is zoned properly for hazmat, and
even though it is controlled and everyone is careful, accidents do
happen. I remember one such incident ~ ten years ago and the street had
to be closed off. There may have been others but I am not personally
aware. Also, in the last two years we have had six break-ins where
equipment was stolen and our van was stolen from behind a locked gated
backyard. We are not the only ones who have had stolen automobiles or
break-ins in the area. While the Menlo Park Police Department has done
a terrific job investigating and responding, it is still a grave
concern. We have a company policy not to allow any employee to work
alone, due to the fact that one of our employees was attacked by three
men while he was walking alongside of our building in broad daylight.
We have endeavored to make our company and employees safe. We have,
among other things, a 24-hour security alarm and we have instituted
safety policies for all our locations.
Thank you for allowing me to express my concerns and fears for the
children.
Kimberley Dawn, CEO
Noren Products, Inc., 1010 O'Brien Dr., Menlo Park.
I believe the parents need to pull up the police reports for this area
before they send their children to a school in this area.
