Hello,
Vanessa Johnson has been a great influence on my life. She was my first
basketball coach when I was 9 years old in 1987. When I was 14 we took
7th place in the Nation for basketball. She always let us know education
came first, and sports and un second. That has stayed with me throughout
my 28 years of life. Vanessa has lead by example. Throughout the years
of her hard work and dedication fro the Onetta Harris Community Center,
she has helped steer the lives of myself as well as several of my
closest friends. She has been an active member in the inner city of
Menlo Park, Ca. She is a well respected individual, everyone knows, "
Vanessa from the Center." The Onetta Harris Community Center would not
be the same without Vanessa working there with the youth. Those of us
who have children, often bring them back for the same coaching, the same
teaching, that Vanessa has delivered.
The center (Onetta Harris) was like a second home for me and my friends,
this was where we can release and have fun, learn and we were old
enough, Vanessa provided the opportunity for us to give back; just as
she has. She provided the opportunity for us to give back as youth
counselors to teach the youth about the values of life and the fun of
sports and how to put the two together throughout life.
The city of Menlo Park would be doing the Onetta Harris Community Center
as well as the inner city youth a great disservice if she was to be
moved to Burgess Park. Although the opportunity may be great, no one
will ever fulfill the void that would be left throughout Menlo Park.
Please keep her here at Onetta Harris. Thank you!!
Terence Brown
