RE: Utility Tax

Dear writer:
Menlo Park City staff will be preparing an information piece that identifies
the important distinctions between the various dollar figures that are
circulating and their origin. I hope that it brings clarity to what has
been confusing to a number of our residents. When it is available, I will
email it to you.
In the meantime, please be aware that the City Council will be reviewing a
report at its February 6th meeting that details where we are
fiscal-year-to-date, and will also be discussing the timing of the Utility
User Tax.
Regards,
David Boesch, City Manager

Subject: Utility Tax

To the Menlo Park City Council:

I reluctantly voted for the utility tax because it appeared that Menlo Park
would lose vital services.

Now it appears that there may be no deficit at all, or if there is one, its
amount is unknown. Therefore the tax may be unnecessary, or at least needs
to be considered carefully to see at what rate it should be levied.

The new City Council members ran on a program of an open council, with the
promise of no hurried decision-making without appropriate discussion.
Despite these assurances the utility tax at the maximum rate allowable has
very quickly been put into effect. I suggest that the tax be re-evaluated
after more information is available about the mystifying on again-off again
deficit.
