Dear Neighbors
I was totally dismayed that MP voters had passed still another tax on us
regular working joes. Along with Bush's new tax our "health care
benefits at work," Menlo Park is going to charge a 3% tax on our
utilities. Excuse me but aren't we already paying taxes on utilities?
It's getting so that along with my property taxes increasing every year,
now you want to tax me on my heat, water and electricity? It's an
outrage and one that I find puts another crimp on my modest budget! I
already work 2 jobs and they're aren't enough hours in a day to work a
third job.
Why can't the city do what I do when I don't have enough money -- cut
back and stop getting those $4 lattes. Would anyone like to pay some of
my bills? I don't think so.
Maybe you have no idea of how many taxes we pay each year. We should all
be screaming or at least flooding every elected representative with a
fax or email! Enough is enough!
Here's a list of taxes we already pay. Does anyone think that another MP
tax is really going to help. Personally I'd take a real hard look at all
the "contracts" the city pours money into and ask "do we really need
it?" Oh and you may like this one. Somehow insurance companies and
insurance brokers don't have to pay the MP utility tax - that's
outrageous as they are a VERY PROFITABLE industry. How many can say that
their insurance rates don't go up? Excuse me, there's something very
rotten when the insurance industry doesn't have pay their fair share of
the MP utility tax - because that means that the city has to distribute
that loss to the rest of us.
Is anyone else unhappy? Then write to the council and find out why
insurance companies and brokers get off scott free from taxation.
Another tax isn't going to make the budget better. Only better planning
and less spending will do it.
