TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
It is to my understanding that Vanessa Johnson is going to be
transferred from the Belle Haven After School Program (BHASP) to work at
Burgess Park. I wish that it could be explained clearly to me why this
is happening because it does not make much sense to me. Vanessa has
worked for the BHASP for some 23+ years and she has built lifetime
relationships with community members, parents, children, and school
officials. She has watched many of the students from the Belle Haven
Community grow from child to young adult and has played an active role
in their lives. She does all that is within her reach to be sure that
children and youth of the Belle Haven community have all of the
resources that they need to succed and be effective members of society.
She has an innate ability to empower all that she encounters and her
presecene, if taken away, will cause a dominoe effect of problems.
It will totally change the atmosphere of the program, upset the
dynamics of the students who come, the parents who bring them, and it
will SOON bring to a close a program that is filled with love, care,
compassion, and empathy. Many quesitons and eyebrows will be raised and
the wonderings will go around as to who made what executive decision and
why? Were the best interests of the kids put first? It makes me wonder
if people took into account the students whose needs to be served first
and foremost. It is the children who matter most, and it is the children
of the Belle Haven Community whose needs to be taken into account when
these type of executive decisions are being made. I can only wonder and
think what will happen to the students in this community when someone to
whome the are attached to, someone who they care about. cares about
them, and looks forward to seeing is taken away from them and replaced
with someone who....well? Who? It's not fair to Vanessa nor is it fair
to the children of the Belle Haven Communnity.
I stand firm in my position that Vanessa C. Johnson, should not be moved
from the Belle Haven After School Program to work at Burgess Park.
